You're doing what!?

When I told my grandmother over dinner what we were doing, that was the first thing she said..."You're doing what!?" It seemed almost involuntary. When I told my bosses and coworkers, the news was met by the same look and the same..."People do that!?" When we told our friends, it was kind of like..."Why not Europe!?"

And then, always the same..."But why!?"

To begin, I'm not sure where or when we got this idea. It seems like we've always been talking about doing "the trail." Of course, we also want to go to Europe, have a house, own a business...but this idea of the trail has always come back in discussions. After years, it's started to seem like the only way to to get past it is to go for it. So here we are, turning a dream into a reality. We've told family, friends, and given notice at work. We've bought all of our equipment. We've done A TON of research. We have a plan. Having done all of these things means it's real, right? It still seems so surreal, but we're looking forward to this being just one of many crazy adventures and we're glad you can follow along! -Dana

  1. Hi Dana and Scrubrat and Slapstick
I met you all at the Smart and Final in Bishop. We ended up going out of town July 6, 7, and 8th. Maybe that's when you went through Mammoth. Hope Dana's foot is doing well. LOVE the writing and I know this is going to encourage my husband to one day do the PCT with our son, Tom, who is 10 now. Be safe and enjoy the journey. I am armchair traveling with you and enjoying every word.
